Hangers as primary supports
Support Designer allows hanger-type supports to be created as primary supports when the following administrative settings have been defined.
Geometry
The GDL object of a hanger must be of type "GDL for Standard Part" and its geometry type must be DM_GT_TEE (7).
The GDL object should define the length of the hanger rod as a Length-type instance parameter where the constraint type is set to a suitable min–max range.
Dimension Table
The Dimension Table of a hanger must contain the same dimension parameters that are defined in the "GDL for Standard Part" object.
The instance parameter constraints of each nominal size can be either inherited from the GDL object or defined in the Dimension Table.
When a designer inserts a hanger into the model, the length of the hanger rod is taken from the default instance parameter value of the selected nominal size, but the designer can then adjust the parameter value as required.
Catalog Part
There is nothing special about the Catalog Part for a hanger.
Piping Specification
In the piping specification, the part sizes of a hanger must be added to a Functional Code whose Component Class is "Primary Supports".
Support Wizards
The administrative actions listed above allow hangers to be inserted with the Construct tool of Support Designer.
If hangers are to be inserted with a support wizard, you must define the project-specific parameters for the wizard-type builder function of the support. For pipes this means that there must be an entry in the relevant configuration table. See Parameters for secondary supports.
Different support wizards may have additional special requirements for the setup. For example, they may require that the piping specification contains a fixed-name Functional Description/Short Code that is then referenced by the pipeline of the pipe object onto which the hanger clamp is attached.
